The story is always more complicated than it seems.
The fact that the people in this region were facing soul-crushing hunger and poverty before the conflict is an extra detail that makes the story just a little too complicated. Ok, it helps explain why the conflict broke out.
But when we’re complaining about schools that have been attacked, we can’t exactly point out that many schools in this area were in complete disrepair previously too.
And when we talk about 3.2 million people hungry, it muddies waters a bit to talk about archaic agricultural practices and the fact that no one has bothered to plant.
Simple messages are strong messages…but they aren’t always the most real.
